Disabled GPS on a Windows Mobile phone

I’m starting to notice that mobile network carriers disable features in their handset on purpose (as shocking and cruel as that may sound.) That strikes up a great deal of irritability from me — I am a sound believer that if I paid for a product, I should be getting full access to what [...]

Google Maps for mobile: enable your phone and never carry a map again

Google Maps for mobile — it’s one of the greatest offerings that Google’s made in my humble opinion. Armed with my handset (and data connection) and this software, I can never be lost again in the city. Hungry and need to find a local pizzeria in a hurry? No digging through Yellow Pages, [...]

Android v1.0 released

For anybody that cares, Android v1.0 has been released along with the T-Mobile G1 handset running Android on it.  The future is finally here — I can hardly wait.
Here’s the download site:
http://code.google.com/android/download_list.html
Their download page hasn’t been updated yet, but here’s the link to the SDKs:

I’m very excited now.

Transit directions now available via Google Maps on Windows Mobile

Apparently this was released without much fanfare, but Google Maps Mobile v2.2.0.16 for your Windows Mobile smartphone / pocketpc has been released, which means it now provides transit directions on the go.
This makes me extremely happy, but annoyed as well, as it was released quietly — I’m even subscribed to the Google Latlong blog.
Give it [...]

Another update regarding Android on the Vogue

Update(24/7/08): I’ve repackaged the files in android.zip and updated a few things. Now you don’t need to copy 256M to your SD card, just put system.gz and data.gz on the card and the first time it boots they will be extracted to system.img and data.img (thanks to Kevin’s initramfs installer for [...]

SD write support on the Android port to the Vogue

Today, Martin Johnson released something I’m been waiting a long time for in his progress of porting Android to the Vogue — SD controller support!
I haven’t tested this yet, I’ll be playing with it tonight when I get off work.
Here’s the notes from Martin:
The SD driver now works, this means you don’t have to run [...]

Missing Google Maps Mobile v2.2.0 on a Windows Mobile phone

This is just a gripe that Google hasn’t released Google Maps Mobile v2.2.0 for a Windows Mobile-based phones or pocket PCs yet.  The version has been out for the Blackberry’s for weeks… Where’s my update!?
Edit: this has been out for ages now, disregard.
