Billix

I  wanted to mention that I’ve been looking for something like for this a bit — a USB key that comes with a way to install multiple Linux distributions.  While at work, we primarily use Gentoo, we still have a Ubuntu server or CentOS install to do occasionally, and it would be nice to have a non-CD way of doing it.

Billix to the rescue!

This little 110MB download includes netinstalls for all of these distros: three Ubuntu installs (Feisty, Edgy, Dapper; both desktop and server editions), Debian Sarge and Edgy, Centos 5.1 and 4.6, Fedora Core 8.  It also includes memtest86+, ntpwd, and DSL (Damn Small Linux.)

Give it a try if you have a use for it!

Awesome man, just what I was looking for myself.

Any thoughts on how well Billix handles WiFi cards?

I can see something like this being really useful for converting Netbooks, especially if it has passable Wireless support.

It’d also be mighty handy for on-the-road reinstalls (or distro hopping), when combined with your mobile.

Since it’s just really a disk with syslinux and the kernels and initrd for each install method, so that’s up to the distro text installer. FWIW, it worked fine for me on my 1000H eee.

To confirm that I understand you correctly: “working fine” includes WiFi on your Asus 1000H eee?

That one uses a Ralink RT2860, right? I suppose we can score at least one functioning wireless card that’s reasonably common, then.

It’s up to the distro itself that you’re installing, if you install Ubuntu, then you’ll have working wifi on an eee (not including WPA PSK and WPA2). If you boot up DSL, YMMV.

Not sure on the wifi chipset at the moment.
